Representational Consequences of Special Mechanisms for Ethnic Minority Inclusion: Evidence from Romania
Publisher: ECMI Volume: 27 pages, pdf Description: This paper contributes to the study of representational consequences of electoral mechanisms by providing a detailed analysis of ethnic representation in the Romanian case. This case is of particular interest to research on ethnic minority representation as Romania‟s electoral rules establish a number of distinct institutional channels for gaining legislative representation in the lower chamber of national parliament. These rules have also been relatively stable since the start of post-communist transition, which provides an important leverage for discussing long term effects of specific institutional choices.
