The public was shocked with the content of wire-tapped phone conversations, re-leased by an opposition party, indicating corruption, election fraud, direct interference in the judiciary and media, and other serious wrongdoings by members of the Government. The public in Macedonia remained deeply divided between those who were appalled by the content of the conversations and those who were mainly “concerned about the origin” or denied the authenticity of the wire-taps, trying to minimize the obvious main role of the mem-bers of the Government at the highest positions.
